Revisit of a 2015 discussion -- "Using EDA500 during a Factory Default"

There was a discussion back in 2015 regarding retaining data in a separate volume in an EDA500 whilst doing a factory reset of the parent ReadyNAS box. The specific discussion was "Using EDA500 during a Factory Default".
The discussion seemed to conculde that, after doing a factory reset of the parent ReadyNAS box, the associated EDA500 volume(s) would be erased when they were reattached. One contributor "@BrianL" identified a document he referred to as "EDA500 FAQ" and provided a link. That link is now dead and I can't trace any document titled "EDA500 FAQ".
My reason for this is that I have a very similar sitiuation to the OP of "Using EDA500 during a Factory Default", whereby I'd like to do a factory reset of my ReadyNAS (and I'm not concerned about loosing the data on it) but I REALLY need to keep the data on the EDA500. Apart from the standard "you must always keep a backup" response, does anyone have any suggestions please? The crux of my problem is, the ReadyNAS is my TimeMachine backup, and my EDA500 is my backup copy, so I need to be able to recover the ReadyNAS from the EDA500 after the factory reset, or loose all my backup history.

So long as you currently have access to the GUI to export the volume, then you should be fine keeping the data on it and re-attaching it after the factory default. Just make sure you don't create any shares on the main NAS with the same name as on the EDA. You may need to disable XRAID to do the import, especially if you have a vertically expanded volume in the EDA.

Export the EDA500 volume before you do the factory reset, and then power down or disconnect it before you do the reset.
Then post-reset power down the NAS, reconnect the EDA and power up.
FWIW, Using the EDA500 as a backup isn't the best approach, since generally you don't want your backup to be on the same device. The EDA500 is just an enclosure, so it is the same device as the main ReadyNAS.
Sandshark has more experience with exporting volumes (and with the EDA500), so perhaps give him a chance to chime in.
