RN102, Mix Raid 0 and Raid 1?
Hi guys, just got an RN102, I'm gonna fill it with 2xWDRED2TB, is it possible to have this configuration? 2x800GB (1.6TB) Raid 1 iSCSI LUN for backing up my linux server and storing its bigger files...

The main issue with jbod is that you need to manually balance the storage between the two disks. That's easiest if you set things up with more/smaller shares.
This is probably what I'll end up doing, 2xJBOD, one NFS mount per drive and rsync one to the other after every backup. thanks guys

I recently purchased a new NAS (3x4TB with raid 1) and looking to refurbish my old readynas nv+ with 2x2tb as a remote backup. I dont care for redundancy on the remote unit and wish to maximize the available terabyte. Thus, I tried to factory reset the remote unit and set it to flex-raid - raid zero.
I have gone through the process several times now and each time I end up with raid one and capacity of 2tb. Please help. Why wouldn't the raid zero setting with 2x2tb stick for me?

What firmware are you running on the NAS?
Did you try deleting the RAID-1 volume and recreating the one you want?
FWIW, I recommend jbod (two RAID-0 volumes) - otherwise a failure to either drive destroys all your data.

I understand the jbod advantage of having separate volumes. But the thing is that I dont really need redundancy with the remote nas. What I really need is to maximize capacity the 2x2tb. I have a single volume with raid 1 at the local nas and would prefer a single volume setup at the remote unit too for ease of remote back-up. It would be taxing to choose between the two remote volumes to do back-up.
Regarding your suggestion of deleting the raid-1 volume, do you suggest that i choose the "erase volume" before i select the raid-o after the factory reset action.Following is what I have been doing...I had both discs in, did the factory reset. I would think the action automatically erases both discs. I then get the prompt from raidar to select flex-raid. I selected flex-raid and raid-zero. But once the nas stabilizes out, I keep getting raid one instead with a total disc capacity of 2tb.Currently I am running firmware RAIDiator 4.1.14 [1.00a043] with the remote nas.Alex- StephenBAug 15, 2015Guru - Experienced User

I always point out the risks, because a lot of people don't know them, and are surprised later on. Two backup jobs instead of one is not "taxing" IMO. But to each his own. You know the risks, and you have a backup plan in place.

What version of RAIDar are you using?
