Can not get this to work .. getting frustrated. gmail side enable less secure apps testmail fails regardless /peo
Did you also disable two-factor authentication on the gmail side?

Interesting. That does work for me. My NAS is set to port 465, use TLS is checked, and the SMTP server is set to smtp.googlemail.com
If you are using a static IP address on the NAS, double-check your subnet mask and your DNS servers. It is possible that you simply can't reach the internet from the NAS.
Tryed with googlemail as well ... no luck same result as with smtp.gmail.com
