RN104 "No Volume Exists" error

I use My RN104 NAS as primary network storage.

It has four 4TB drives (originally x2 but an additional pair was added ~4 months ago).

During the last days, the storage was not accessible over the network. The device exists and appears healthy but the admin page indicates "no volume exists".

I would like some advice or support to recommend which sequence of actions I should follow in order to maximise my chances to recover my data ,and then to continue to use the device if possible.

I am prepared to pay a support fee, I tried to do this however the Netgear site indicates my product is no longer supported.

When I access my device, the admin page appears as follows:

The disk status looks healthy (ATA Error=0) for 3 disks but the disk in slot 2 shows ATA Error=13

I have downloaded the logs (as zip file) and will transfer theses as required.

Kind Regards,

Dominic

Your log shows two disk failures (one on April 23, the second on May 3rd).  RAID-5 can handle one failed disk, but not two.

Do you have a backup of the data?

        Hi StephenB,

        Thank you for your reply.

Indeed it seems I have experienced two failures, with just over one week interval between.

I have no backup of the data.

Before the errors, I believe I had an x-raid configuration with 4x 4TB drives. The first error occurred on slot1, the original data drive. The final error occurred on slot2 (the parity drive).

I believe my total data usage was approx 2-3TB (i.e not exceeding the size of one physical drive). I think it is unlikely that any files were written to the volume during the time interval between the two failures.

Currently I am considering to mount all 4x SATA drives to a Windows PC and then to attempt to recover the volume using software such as:

"Hetman Raid recovery 2.4" or "ReclaiMe"

If you have any advice or recommendations before starting, it would be very welcome!

        Kind Regards,

        domg22
