Hi JennC,
It seems that the firmware update was successful, the homepage for the ReadyNAS shows the 6.4.0 firmware version.
I'll contact support, thanks for your help.

Hi,
Well I contacted NEtgear Support and have been informed that my system is registered to someone else... NICE...! I bought this new on Amazon which is obviously a returned item... Amazon will give me a refund, but they want the system back.... UUUGGGGGG this doesn't solve anything for me!
anyway, now that i have had my rant... NEtgear support did look at my downloaded lags and have told me that disk 2 has failed... i have now replaced it and nothing happens. i really need some help with this!!!! Please!!!!!
So just as a recap.... i have a RN104. i have 4 x WD Red 3TB hard drives. I am running Raid 5 (x-Raid), I have replaced disk 2 (Channel 1) with a new drive. When i look in "volumes" i see three Red Channels and one Grey all showing green lights. I have an alert telling me to remove Disks 1,3, and 4 to use the volumes.
Where do i go from here??????

Did you try powering down, and remove the drive you just inserted? Then power up again?
On the Amazon screw-up - normally they ship you the replacement with the return shipping label (so you shoiuld be able to keep using this NAS until their replacement arrives). You'd want to install the same firmware you are running now (using a scratch disk), and then you can migrate your existing disks (keeping them in the same slots).
