RN214 Reports volume capacity at 5% after defrag
I have two RN214, one as a server and the other as a backup. The server is set up as RAID 6, the backup as X-RAID 5. Neither are approaching 10% used. However, both drives consistently report warning...
I think leaving AV off is your best plan, you could try a balance as well
My schedule is to balance and defrag weekly. The balance doesn't seem to precipitate an issues.
I am assuming NetGEAR provides AV for a reason, and that leaving it off has risks, too. At any rate, I'll try this last experiment to collect another data point so that if anyone is working on this issue and cares, they'll have more information. Thanks for your response.

The reason is simple- some users want it.
If you download programs directly onto the NAS (for instance with transmission), then you could stop doing that until the patches are available.
Anything you copy from a PC should be scanned by the PC's AV protection.
I'm using READYCloud, so one of my drives is exposed to the outside world. I'd rather keep AV on if I can, although not at the expense of having an OS problem.
I have definitely confirmed a correlation between AV and defrag use. AV on and no defrag = no problem. AV on with defrag = problem. AV off and defrag = no problem.
Based on that pattern, am I better off leaving AV on and turning off the defrag schedule for a while, or the other way around? Defrag rarely takes more than a few minutes a week, so I assume that fragmentation is not a major issue for me. Ideas?
By the way, if someone from NETGEAR looks at this, the RAID 6 array gets to 20%, while the X-RAID 5 array gets below 5%. The set ups are otherwise practically identical (3x4TB).
I think you've discovered that defrag is triggering bad behavior in AV.
Personally I wouldn't trust the AV at the moment (though the errors posted seem to be mostly involving false positives).
Another option is to use a PC AV package that supports scanning of network shares, and use that for now. Though it will have some performance impact, since it is running over the network.
