I think what he wanted was to try and re-configure the back-up job to point out the USB location rather than a share.

Backup to usb port instead of usb share, press and hold backup button to unmount front usb port (iirc), use a dummy backup job to unmount the USB port and add it at the end the backup button job list, there are several things to try and plenty of threads talking about it.
