RN316 Not expanding & "cannot connect discovery server"

Cannot connect Discovery Server comes if your DNS setting is Wrong or there is some issue on Internet connection to the Box . Go to Cloud settings on the webpage , Switch on the ReadyNAS Remote or Cloud and see if it shows Tick on Internet connected . If not there is some problem with your connectivity .
Box will be accessible on the local network without any issues . Discovery Server is Just for the box to get to Internet for Antivirus / Firmware Updates automatically .
Should not give a problem unless there is some issue on the HDD . Before Inserting the HDD , there should be no partition .
May be you can also check with a Higher capacity than 3TB . My Guess is the HDD you use may have lesser sectors than all the other drives . (Not Sure)
Best is to Contact Support for the expansion issue...
