In general, be very careful on typing. Mistakes in entering some commands can have very bad consequences. The commands I'm giving you should be pretty safe though.
You'd first enable ssh via the web ui (system->settings->services).
Then confirm you can log into the NAS using it. On a Mac you would do that with terminal. Enter
ssh root@nas-ip-addressusing the real NAS IP address of course. When prompted for the password, you use the NAS admin password.
After you log in with ssh, you'll need to re-insert the new disk. Wait about 5 minutes after that for the ReadyNAS software to test it.
Then start with this command:
lsblk -o name, modelThis will list all the disks and their partitions. One of my NAS shows this (yours will have similar information)
NAME MODEL sda WDC WD100EFAX-68 ├─sda1 │ └─md0 ├─sda2 │ └─md1 ├─sda3 │ └─md127 └─sda4 └─md126 sdb WDC WD100EFAX-68 ├─sdb1 │ └─md0 ├─sdb2 │ └─md1 ├─sdb3 │ └─md127 └─sdb4 └─md126 sdc WDC WD101EFBX-68 ├─sdc1 │ └─md0 ├─sdc2 │ └─md1 ├─sdc3 │ └─md127 └─sdc4 └─md126 sdd WDC WD100EFAX-68 ├─sdd1 │ └─md0 ├─sdd2 │ └─md1 ├─sdd3 │ └─md127 └─sdd4 └─md126Also, enter this command to see what (if anything) is syncing:
cat /proc/mdstatAgain, one of my own NAS shows this:
Personalities : [raid0] [raid1] [raid10] [raid6] [raid5] [raid4] md126 : active raid5 sda4[0] sdd4[3] sdc4[4] sdb4[1] 11717352576 blocks super 1.2 level 5, 64k chunk, algorithm 2 [4/4] [UUUU] md127 : active raid5 sda3[5] sdd3[7] sdc3[6] sdb3[4] 17567012352 blocks super 1.2 level 5, 64k chunk, algorithm 2 [4/4] [UUUU] md1 : active raid10 sda2[0] sdc2[3] sdd2[2] sdb2[1] 1044480 blocks super 1.2 512K chunks 2 near-copies [4/4] [UUUU] md0 : active raid1 sda1[5] sdd1[7] sdc1[6] sdb1[4] 4190208 blocks super 1.2 [4/4] [UUUU] unused devices: <none>Copy/paste the output of both of these commands in a reply, and I can give you some next steps - including how to run the long smart test on the new drive.
