Settings for eth1:
Speed: 100Mb/sIs this expected? Most people with x86 NAS are using gigabit networks.
If you are connecting to a gigabit switch or router, then you probably have a bad cable. You could shift it to the other ethernet port, and see if that also negotiates the same speed.

thanks StephenB, i connected a new cable to the current NIC port, so not sure how stable it'll be but keeping an eye on it.
the port is currently using a static IP, and all my devices are connecting via that IP. So that's why I was wondering about connecting to the second port at the same time if it would conflict. Great tip though, i won't try it. (If i do, i'll change the first port to DHCP first, then set the second to static).

Using both NICs at the same time requires bonding - probably not the timefor playing with that now.

If your router supports Address Reservation (sometimes called ARP binding), then I suggest using that instead (setting the port back to DHCP).
One potential issue is an IP address conflict. Is the static IP address outside the DHCP assignment range?

Thank you for all of your suggestions. Stephenb, I did what you suggested and watched over a few days and it looks like it's running stable. Turns out it was connected to a switch that was connected to the router. I replaced the cable and moved it directly to the router. So far so good. Thank you again:)

I'm glad it's running again.
