ST2000DM001 models that look identical have different number of platters (2 or 3) , different number of heads (2,4,6), and have significantly different performance. The only way to tell what you have is to decode the serial number (even the full model name ST2000DM001-9YN164, etc. won't tell you). Perhaps this explains why they won't tell you the warranty without knowing the serial number. And I thought the v1/v2 confusion was bad!
