rsync from remote to ReadyNAS
I am trying to mirror my local RAID archive to the ReadyNAS as a remote mirror for my archive.
I followed the directions here: https://kb.netgear.com/29929/ReadyNAS-OS-6-Setting-up-a-backup-job-with-rsync-over-SSH "Using Remote Host" but it still requires a password to rsync or even log on through SSH. I have checked the boxes that allow both rsync and terminal commands. rsync and SSH are active in settings. I have also tried to log on and send the key using the 'ssh-copy-id'; the key was accepted but again it still requires a password.
I want to note that I had this working for a few years and it suddenly stopped.
Any suggestions?
Radjin~

Hello Radjin ,
And welcome to the NETGEAR Community! 🙂
Can you tell me the last configuration you have done to the device?
There would be some permission issues with the SSH. Although you have enabled please check with the configuration using the below link.

Try changing the permission for SSH and also check once with all the permission you have given.

My configuration matches the article under “Enabling SSH access for root using a public/private key pair.” except for #4, as I need to use the password in order to run rsync manually from a terminal command until I can get the key to work.
The last configuration change I made, a few weeks ago, was to allow password access so I could manually run rsync. Before that, it has been years since I made any changes, and the only change back then was to activate rsync, ssh, and upload the key. It has worked perfectly for a long time, then stopped.
What change should I make in permissions?
Thanks,
Radjin~

Hello Radjin,
There might be some permission configuration that causes this issue.
To access shares using Rsync:
1. Ensure that the Rsync file-sharing protocol is enabled on your ReadyNAS storage
system.Refer to the below link
https://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/READYNAS-100/READYNAS_OS_6_SM_EN.pdf
And refer to page number 93 and 71 for changing the network access rights permission for source and host configuration.
That may enable you to access the rsync without a password.
For more information about Rsync terminal program commands,
visit http://Rsync.samba.org.If your issue is resolved please close the thread by clicking "Accept as solution".
Have a lovely day,
