I ran in debug mode for a long time when I was trying to help sort out the scan problem, and no, it never actually threw an error message, up to the last version I tried (7.6.2). But you could more or less figure out what file it had choked on by where it had stopped.
I'm curious as to what performance you get with an Ultra 2. With the NV+, browsing performance is too slow for taking full advantage of the Squeezebox. The only way I might try a new version of SBS/LMS is if it promised significant speed improvement.
