Sharing network or blu-ray drives over DLNA
Hi guys,
I've just bought myself a ReadyNas Duo with two 1TB drives (mirrored) and a nice new LG 3D Smart TV that can connect to DLNA streamed media. Now the media on the ReadyNas is found nicely but I'd also like to share my movies on my slightly older Netgear EVA9100 (with 2TB of tv shows etc) that doesnt provide a dlna service. The 2TB drive is shared on my LAN and always on - can I somehow stream it with the ReadyNAS dlna server?
I am also looking to get a cheap blu-ray drive for the PC to play some 3D movies. I can do this easily while the PC is next to the TV via the HDMI cable, but I'd like to move the PC further away. Any recommendations for a PC software dlna server package that will let me stream 3D movies direct from the blu-ray player - or better yet can the ReadyNas do it??

- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserReadyDLNA requires local access to the media it serves up. So it can't forward media from DLNA clients (I don't believe the DLNA specification allows for that anyway). So the short answer for the EVA question is no. You say this is an EVA9100 - which has no internal disk. So if the model is correct, the media is on a USB drive? Or do you really have an EVA9000 with an internal 2 TB drive?
On the bluray drive, the best option there is to buy a 3D player for the TV. I don't know of any server that will stream directly from the BluRay disk, and strongly suspect the DLNA client in the LG wouldn't accept a full 3D BluRay stream anyway. - ArnulfAspirantThanks StephenB. Yup I'm thinking that the dedicated bluray player is the way to go.
The EVA9150 comes with a 500GB HDD, while the one I bought (I'm sure its the 9100) is the same thing with an empty HDD bay - that I filled with a cheap 2TB drive. I'll keep looking for a PC-based DLNA server that can grab media from a network drive as I really dont want to have to move the EVA9100 from the old TV it is connected to. - StephenBGuru - Experienced User
The 9100 won't accept a drive at all, so you must have an EVA9000. Another difference is that the EVA9100 doesn't do wifi - the 9000/9150 will connect over wireless N or ethernet.Arnulf wrote: Thanks StephenB. Yup I'm thinking that the dedicated bluray player is the way to go.

"Digital Entertainer Express" -> EVA9100
"Digital Entertainer Elite" -> EVA9150, EVA9000
