SHOULD I PULL THE POWER LEAD OUT ON MY NAS?
Before you ask, I have a full suite of screen captures (and a video) answering all the usual "you haven't told me what firmware version you are using, what is the model number and so on and so on". I...

NO FURTHER ACTION REQUIRED THANKYOU.
On instruction from level 2 Nergear support for the NV104 ("Study-nas") I took the power lead out and replaced it when (ironically!!!!) that NAS would not shutdown. This fixed that problem.
Therefore I took a risk with NAS inquestion (Nv+V2 / NAS-Backup) and took the power lead out. When I reinserted it the Nv+V2 started quickly and I have now completled a successfull backup to it as usual.
I appreciate the willingness of everyone to offer their suggestions.
One other comment is this latest netgear support person everturned previous NG advice. I was now advised to use the on off button on the computer to turn the NAS's off and not the physical button on the front of the NAS case (which apparently has its own little driver which can fail).

OK that succeeded. Here for the 4th time is my reply:Thanks for your comments and help. Really appreciated.
Sorry for not being up to speed with the community etiquette and protocols, so if I am not properly replying (by sending this email) please let me know. (I could not see your email content below on the forum).
FYI the NAS in question is the BU for the other NAS in my screen captures. (This other NAS is where we place all our data that all our computers and devices "drink" from and "save to" - our "SERVER" if you will. We keep the NAS in question off site and once a week bring it on site to do an (incremental) BU)
Apologies again - I do understand the concept of your suggestion below, but for the life of me am totally unable to see how STEP 1 (Booting the system skipping the file system check) can be implemented. (I have sent logs in the past and have some chance of doing this by myself if I can succeed in "STEP 1")

As your NAS had not completed booting that would explain why shutting it down gracefully didn't work. Generally it's not a good idea to shutdown a system during the boot process (unless you have no choice).

Just to be clear, there are TWO NAS devices. One would not shut down. The other would not start up.
So I can't quite understand the last comment since it not the same NAS. - as described in the original and previous comments and the screen captures.
