I have the LAG type set to LACP in the switch (GS724T in my case); you also have to put the two switch ports into the group.
On the NAS I have LACP with xmit hash policy of layer 2 + layer 3.
I don't believe the order matters, my recollection is that both devices fail over to non-teamed operation if the LACP setup fails.
