Slow write from usb to readynas duo

So I have a lot of music on this external hard drive that I am putting on my readynas duo so I can stream it via firefly. the transfer rate is really slow at 500kb/sec (I was expecting 2 or 3 MB/s). ...

Thanks - you are right (obviously) and I guess matching apple file protocols and disk formats doesn't help?
