SMB Shares on Windows 7 Not allowing More than one connection at a time

I have a ReadyNas 104 and I need to have control of 2 shares from my windows 7 computer at the same time. eventually I will need more than 2 shares mounted to drive letters but I can't get past 1 at a time now.

The first share is for Backups

The second share is for Recorded-TV from my DVR

I manage the NAS from my computer and need to have both shares mounted at the same time but I do not want the Backups accessable from my Android TV Boxes or any other device on my network.

I have placed the shares in root

BackupShare

home

Recorded-TV

I have created 3 users .. BackupUser TVUser and Admin2

I have assigned BackupUser and TVUser to their respective shares

I have also added Admin2 user to both the tv and backup shares.

In windows I can Mount a SMB Share to a Drive letter when I use "different credentials" and enter the username and password for each account.

When I try to mount the second share to a Drive Letter I get an Error .. Access Denied and it won't mount

When I try to use either the individual users .. or the Admin2 user which has access to both shares in Network and File settings on the ReadyNas it will fail on the second drive letter mount.

I need to have both shares accessable from my computer all day

and I need to have the Recorded-Tv Share available from my Android TV Boxes running Kodi.tv but I do not want my Backup Directory accessable from anyone but my computer.

I have tried may times and it seems it always chokes

when I try Net use from the command promt and try to mount a second share with the same user and pass as the first

I get

 -------------

System error 1219 has occurred.

Multiple connections to a server or shared resource by the same user, using more
than one user name, are not allowed. Disconnect all previous connections to the
server or shared resource and try again.

 --------------------

Unfortunately the SMB protocol seems to be the best situation for managing because its what my software can do and I would also have access from explorer.... but I can not mount both shares at the same time.. I am already using backup software to automate both moving of new recorded shows and regular backups on windows and it uses SMB as the protocol .. and I need to do this every day and a few times during the day.

Mounting and Disconnecting will often cause a glitch that requires a reboot of windows to switch shares and my windows computer is running my TV Tuner recording shows so I can't really reboot at a moment's notice in the middle of a tv show so I can do file backups.

  • Ok fixed it i think

it is possible to login to 2 shares with the same credentials HOWEVER

what I did to get it to work .......... i think

I changed ownership of the shares to Admin2

Then under files I had to Reset Permissions

Then using the command prompt I was able to mount both shares to different drives.

    ------------------------------

    C:\Windows\System32>net use w: \\192.168.1.5\BackupShare /user:Admin2 123456
    The command completed successfully.

    C:\Windows\System32>net use z: \\192.168.1.5\Recorded-TV
    The command completed successfully.

    ---------------------------------

when you execute the first command to mount a share you use your username and password then on the second share you do not use your username and password.

If you find you mount a share after changing the ownership to a parent like I did .. Admin2 .. and you can't see files you have to reset permissions and that will do a unix command to let the new owner see the files.

    and you should get

    C:\Windows\System32>net use
    New connections will be remembered.

    Status       Local     Remote                    Network
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
OK           X:        \\192.168.1.7\BackupShare Microsoft Windows Network
OK           Z:        \\192.168.1.7\Recorded-TV Microsoft Windows Network
    The command completed successfully.

    ---------------------------------------------------------

    Next

I get to see if kodi can still see my files when using TVUser as the User.. should be fun.. should probably work .. i hope.

There is a windows workaround which lets you use two credentials.

Windows treats the NAS IP address as a different machine from the NAS Name.  So you can use different credentials for the IP address if you want.
