Streaming to a Wii

This may have been talked about before but I really never saw a good solution.

I have a new Ultra 4 and would like to stream videos and music from the NAS to a Wii. My question is, is there a good solution for this? I would like to use ReadyDLNA if it is possible since it is build into the NAS...

Thanks.

  • I bought the wii also thinking I could use it for a second streamer and had it setup in my daughter's room and wouldn't you know it does not stream that way. Been searching but haven't found anything yet, use a ps3 or xbox or build yourself a cheap xmbc box.
  • Darn... Oh well... I really do not want to go and buy a PS3 or Xbox but I might just have too...

    Thanks for the replies...
  • If you are going to purchase something for streaming and want something that can play everything, (at least everything I threw at it) build yourself a xmbc box and stick in a region free blue ray player.
  • Does the MPlayer ported app, or WiiMC not allow for network streaming? (Homebrew required)

If not, you can ftp the media to a portable usb hard drive and play files with the above apps, and probably many others.

It's been ages since I messed with the Wii so could be wrong as once I modded the Wii my little man hasn't let me near it! (And have no idea if DLNA can be used either, but a google hit should confirm it I imagine.)
  • Maybe before purchasing or building something for streaming, I will have a look at Mplayer or WiiMC... I am not sure about Homebrew, which I know is required. I will need to read up on that to see if it is safe and/or secure...
  • You may use the latest version of TVersity on your PC, it is free and automatically converts any format to Flash which is supported by the Wii browser.

I've tried, it works, but since Wii is WiFi only, the streaming stuttered and froze intermittently due to bandwidth constraints.
