I decided to restore the Readynas Duo to its factory default. So, first I back up all my files. Then I did the step to restore to factory default.
After I did that, I was able to re-install LMS 7.7.3 without running into the dreaded "Unexpected Checksum..." message. So there you have it, my problem is solved, albeit, brute force.
Ok, now I just need to copies my backed up files back to the NAS drives.
