Time machine backup extremely slow

The key is really to switch from AFP to SMB. What I understand you need to do that both for the Time Machine setup menu at the NAS and also at setting/access for the Home Folder where the Time Machine backup is located. Do not forget to re-start the computer after this!
After reading the following article I thought it was best to delete the old Time Machine backup and start a new one.
I really think Netgear should update their manual and instructions with these details.
By the way I had some initial contact with Netgear support at level-2 but not very fruitful and indicates lack of documentation on the subject.
I don't think you need to renew the Time machine backup if you will just switch to SMB. It will only create a new backup if you need to expand the cap.
