Time Machine on USB with ReadyOS 6

Hello,

Under 4.2.xx, I used a folder on the external USB drive to be used for timemachine. It worked so far so good (I never try to recover from it but things where backed up). SInce it has been a while and because I have changed to OS 6. I am lost about how to do it again.
I could not find an updated tutorial for that. I have few questions:
First, which filesystem to use for the USB drive for thimemcahine? (I am thinking ext4 but I would like to be able to unplug the drive to do a restore with direct usb connection to the computer so maybe exfat?)

2nd , the only reference for the folder I found was in: I want to move it from data to the usb drive. Is it the only files to edit? Before it used to be more complex.

/etc/netatalk/timemachine.conf
# Do not edit.
[timemachine]
path = /data/.timemachine
rwlist = ReadyNAS
valid users = ReadyNAS
invalid users = guest nobody @guest @nogroup
vol size limit = 1430511
time machine = yes

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

  • Hello papagaiou, I discovered your post just when I was posting this one :
    "I was planning on using Time Machine backup feature fo readyNAS OS 6 onto an external USB drive formatted in HFS+. Maybe it's an innocent guess, but I was wondering if it would be possible to do this and when I leave home for a long travel, I would unmount and take the external hard drive in order to carry a TimeMachine backup with me."
    Seems that we are looking for the same thing !
    Note that readyNAS OS 6 does have the Paragon driver in order to read (write?) NTFS and HFS+. I bought Paragon driver few years ago and I have been very happy with the quality and sped of their driver so far ! The fact that net gear uses Paragon's driver wasn't covered a lot but I think it's very great for feature, speed and reliability.
    I'll continue digging and hopefully find something useful.
