It does seem to be related to the MacOS Catalina update where the the sparsebundle backup image changed to a different name (backupbundle).

But I don't think the old backups are loss, you can actually get to them.

The problem is not related with backup image change to "backupbundle" name when Catalina was released.
It happens every time _immediately_ after NAS firmware update - because the Mac OS sees that the backup device has changed. For security reasons, the Mac requires a new authorization and creates a new backup( This happens with all other recent versions of Mac OS, for example Mojave.
My question is: how to make firmware updates insensibly for Mac SMB clients? The IP address does not change. Is it possible to save some configuration files or certificates from NAS and restore them after the update?
