I have an Ultra 6 with two free bays. I am wondering if it is possible to add one (or two) drives to the spare bay/s but keep them independent from the main RAID and dedicate it/them to Time Machine ...
No, Time Machine backups to volume C on the NAS are all that is supported though with SSH you could hack it to backup somewhere else.
