Transfering RN PRO Drives

Can the NAS Pro6 be set up in such a way that once the data is redundant (RAID 5) across 4 disks, two can be removed and stored for safe keeping in case the machine OS or whatever fails. The two would of course be replaced with fresh disks but the end result would be the same data on 6 disks, two that would be stored for safe keeping and rotated with those in the NAS machine on a regular basis. Or, if the entire NAS machine failed, the two disks could be used in a new RN box with their data still intact.

Of course, maybe I should just get a large external USB drive for backup., might be simpler.

    Use external USB drives.

Your technique won't work (you'd needs three disk for RAID-5, not two).

The required resyncs will be both time consuming and stressful on the drives. Also, the connectors on SATA drives aren't intended for frequent removal/insertion.
