Two RN104 units - can one be used to back up the other?
I now have 2 RN104 units. One is currently running with a RAID 5 configuration. The second one is about to go online soon. They will both be outfitted with four 1TB drives in each.
What I would like to know is if one of the units can be used to provide an identical copy of the other in some simple fashion? (Besides just doing a manual file copy.)
If so, what do you folks recommend?
Jim
Hi laughingpalm,
As long as both devices are registered to your ReadyNAS Replicate Account. A backup job can be made for the two units. Here are some helpful links you can look at.

You can use the built-in backup jobs, using rsync to copy share-by-share (one job for each). You'd want to match the configuration (including UID and GID assignments for each user and group).
ReadyNAS replicate can also be used - though I don't use that myself. My source NAS is running 4.2.x, which does not include a free replicate licensse. However OS6 does.

If both RN104 devices are running 6.x versions of the firmware, does that mean I can run ReadyNAS Replicate to duplicate the RN104 units one to another? If so, how is that set up? I know nothing about the Replicate feature...
