unable to map or connect to share with windows 7 professional

Microsoft has been tightening up on SMB guest access, so that is one possible cause. Also check that Windows still has the network classified as "work", "private", or "home".
Try adding credentials to the Windows Credential manager for the NAS (one for the IP address, another for the hostname). These should include the username/password for an account on the NAS. If you haven't created any accounts, you can use the NAS admin account credentials.
You can test whether this will work by running CMD and then entering
net use * /delete
net use t: \\nas-ip-address\sharename /user:admin nas-admin-password
Of course use the real IP address, sharename, and admin password. Be careful on the typing (both spaces and slash direction).
The first command terminates any open network sessions. if it asks for confirmation, then let it proceed. It might also tell you that there are no open sessions, which is fine. The second command attempts to map the share to drive letter t.
Note you can also try mapping the entire volume (using C for the sharename). That will fail if the NAS is still using the default admin password.
