Upgrade Drives on NETGEAR READYNAS DUO v2
Hi I'm looking to upgrade my NETGEAR READYNAS DUO v2 hard drives. Currently they sit in a X-RAID 2. I want to know the procedure for doing this, and if it's possible to do it as a hot swap. ...

Nope, nothing was done. It's now after 12 am and nothing has changed. For the meantime I'm just going to let it sit. What gets me, is that it worked fine with one drive in it. Adding the second, or resetting it with two gave me trouble. Like I wrote before, I suspect I did something to it because I accessed it during the initial synch. Tomorrow, reset and no-touch until it's done setting itself up completely.

Hello nightfly44,
How about clearing cache? Then reboot computer and try to access the admin page again?

OK. In another search, I found this, it appears that all this has been gone over before by other people with the same problem. Perhaps you can access the transcripts of what support was done with this user and we can try that. Hello nightfly44,
The topic in that link is about Device Offline where it does not ask for login details. May I ask what login details are you entering to access the admin page? By default it is just admin for username and password for password, since you have performed OS reinstall, it should be using that default login.
If same problem, since you can still access the data, backup all the data so you can factory reset the NAS with the disks inserted. This will allow you to create a new volume with all the disks you want it to use then restore the data.

I've been doing that. At the moment, I've taken a breather from working on it, as nothing so far has solved the problem. Next step I guess is to restore the OS from usb.
Basically, if I install one disk at a time, I get one huge volume, not raid 1, and cannot convert it to raid one. I can access all the rest of the web page, but not change it to raid 1 (as it was not an option when I installed the first drive by itself, just raid 0 or jbod). If I install with both drives in, I get raid 1 (I suppose) with both disks showing working normally in raidar, but cannot access the front page in the web interface. I have tried using admin and password, admin and netgear1, admin and journal (journal is my default password for initial setup of everything I do, and I change it once everything is functional). I have so far tried installing the drives one at a time twice, each time resetting to factory default inbetween. I have tried installing with both drives in three times, also resetting to factory default before initializing. I had thought that accessing the nas while it was syncing perhaps was corrupting something, so the last time around, I left it alone until it was done. But that hasn't changed anything. I have tried to access the nas with intenet explorer, firefox, and chrome. I have cleared the cache in each. I was still getting the device offline message. I'll write back after I reinstall the os and go through the whole process again.

Are you in flexraid or xraid?

netgear1 is for the duo v1, and you have a v2. The default password on the v2 is "password".
If you do a factory reset with all disks in place, you should have a 10 minute window to set up the RAID configuration you want. You need RAIDar for that (and I suggest 4.3.8, not 6.x).

OK Jenn, numerous attempts at this but similar results. Tried it again, this time one disk at a time after reset to factory defaults. Again accessed the nas via web interface, set time zone, set nas name, set password, set email, get to the end, and I get the little spinning thing, then.....it stops. gives me the little white box which says Authentication Required, The server https://192.168.1.10 requests a username and password. The server says: Control Panel (it changed it's address around this time, I suppose it requested it and my router assigned it automatically). The it won't accept admin and either the word password or the password I had tried to change it to, which is journal, whenever I try I keep getting the white box back with the fields empty. I tried AGAIN emptying the cache, and again with internet explorer, firefox, chrome, and added in opera this time. NO go. I'm going to pull the drives and replace with the initial 1 TB seagate. drive. reset and try again. Maybe it just doesn't like WD red 4Tb drives.

Hello nightfly44,
How about OS reinstall again, then use the default password when logging back in once you are in, change the password in the dashboard. This time is it not through the setup wizard but in the dashboard.

OK Jenn, Here's what worked: I'm not a programmer, so I don't understand the underlying problems with how all this worked.
Took out both 4TB drives. Installed the 1TB WD10EARX green drive that shipped with the device into the left drive bay. Let it set itself up. Everything went ok, it set itself up into x-raid2 without any choices offered to me. I watched the goings on with Raidar 6.1. Shut it down, and let it reboot. Installed one of the 4TB WDEFRX drives. The nas recognised it, and mirrored the 1TB partition on the first drive, web page says it's redundant. Shut it down. Removed the 1TB drive. Rebooted. Still able to see it under raidar and web page. Installed the second 4TB drive into the left slot while hot. Then it took it's usual time to mirror the 1TB partition. Following directions, I waited until it was done, and shut it down. Upon reboot, it expanded the mirrored partition to it's full size. Here's the logs, though the web page here changed something that included network addresses. If you want, I can download the logs that I kept and send them to you for archiving should anyone need them, as I don't see a way to attach the logs to this post. Here's what it will allow me to post:

Hi nightfly44,
Base from what you said and in the log sequence that you posted, the system appears to be fully functional now with your 2x 4TB hard drives.
Let us know if you have further questions.
Kind regards,
BrianL
