Upgrading Ultra 2
Hi,
I have an Ultra 2 setup with 2 HDs, one volume on each - so no redundancy. I know this is not safe, but this is a backup ReadyNAS only.
However, if I wanted to change it to Raid1, i.e. FlexRAID, could I do it just by hot removing one of the HDs, knowing full well all data on it would be lost, and then hot adding it again, hopefully getting prompted if I wanted to create a redundant setup? And then the ReadyNAS would expand the existing volume onto the new HD?

- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserI don't think that would work, I think you need a full factory default.
However since this is for backup, you could simply create backup jobs to write to both volumes. For instance, create backup job(s) on the ultra to copy from volume C to volume D. Another option is to back up to volume C some days, and back up to volume D on other days.
