Just reading through this brought back memories of poor firmware releases that didn't support Windows 2000 Domains. Since 4.2.9 things have been working OK, but out of interest, if your connection to the Domain Controller is lost, will it wipe out all your share permissions as the users no longer exist? I seem to recall during 4.2.8 problems that it did - which was a major PITA!
If this is still the case, then that's a pretty shocking implimentation...
It should try and reconnect automatically then ping an email instantly if it fails IMO.
