Yes, I've got a recent backup. But I'm concerned that a disk failure, and two new disk insertions requires a system rebuild. I bought the NAS and put it in X-RAID specifically to not have to worry about such things- it was sold as a plug and play appliance. Disk positions didn't matter. Capacities were mix n match. It was something a non-technical user could manage. I'm technical, my wife is not. I don't want her to have technical headaches just because I've gone under a bus.
What's the process for minimal faffing around during rebuild? Can I pull a disk and use it as seed for the new setup? Do I need to recreate all the shares and permissions? What other considerations?
