I have on my Ready NAS ultra 6 bay with 3 HD's of 2TB (initial install). They were installed in X-raid.Afterwards, I installed 3 extra volumes of 4 TB at different timings, the last one a few days ago.This last install didn't increased the available volume and overall volume is still limited at 9255GB while global volume of installed HD's is 18TB.I read the overall volume is limited at 14 TB. Is this correct? In this case, can I simply remove two 2 TB disks? Are there other alternatives to obtain a maximum usable storage capacity?A factory reset seems no solution for me since I have no possibility to first back-up alle data.Thanks for helping me out with this topic.Kind regards

There are 2 limits:1. An 8TiB expansion limit from the volume size at last factory default. In your case the original volume was about 3.6TiB, meaning you could expand to 11.6 TiB before hitting the limit, which is what has happened to you when you put in the 3rd 4 TB disk. 2. A 16TiB volume size limit - which can be overcome with a factory default with a volume size > 16 TiB in place.Both limits can be overcome with a factory default. You would need to backup all of the data on your volume,factory default, then restore the data.You cannot just remove 2 of the 2tb disks.I'm afraid you are going to have to factory default. 3x2TB Raid 5 has 4 TB volume size = about 3.6 TiB.

I don't know if you can just remove the most recently added 4 tb disk, what does the volume page say in Frontview? Are 6 disks listed as active and part of the array?

If you remove a disk you would have a non-redundant volume.Backup, factory default (wipes all data, settings, everything) and restore data from backup is the way to go here.

OK, I understand I have 3,6TB + maximum extension of 8TB.
But, I have in frontview 3 disks with available volume of 1858GB en 3 disks of 3721GB. Global indicated storage capacity is 9255GB. All 6 disks are indicated as active.
This was already the storage capacity before I installed the last disk of 4TB.

I understand I should have at least a capacity of 3,6TB + 8TB = 11,6TB.
Where did it go wrong and how can I still fix that?

I don't have the capacity of making a full back up but if I could be able to expand my available till 11,6 TB, I would be grateful ;-)

If expansion would take you past the limit it won't take place at all.

OK, but initially I had 3,6TB (3HD's of 2TB). I installed a HD of 4TB, available became 7,6TB (+-). Later, I installed a second 4TB HD. Available should have been then 11,6 TB which is the maximum possible. Why then I still have an available of only 9,225TB. Sorry for insisting, but I want to understand completely the issue.
