Want to test all HDD's in PC - Is there a risk to the RAID array?
Long story short I have the same issues listed in this thread. https://community.netgear.com/t5/ReadyNAS-Hardware-Compatibility/Avoid-Seagate-ST8000VN0002-Horrible-noise-issue/td-p/1103992 Or is an...

I have (4) of the Seagate ST8000NE0001 drives in my ReadyNAS 626X (Configured as RAID 10) and am also experiencing the significant noise issue when the disks are idle. I am hoping for a firmware update from Seagate ... which seems to have solved the same noise issue with the ST8000VN0002 (my assumption is that the firmware is not compatible).

Hi gonegolfin,
Thank you for sharing your resolution and/or workaround. We appreciate your contribution to the community.
Feel free to post any suggestions, questions, recommendations or anything about your NAS that you think needs attention or will help others.

I did provide my serial #'s (Part #ST8000NE0001) to the Seagate Enterprise NAS HDD form page. There are no firmware updates available. Technical Support is echoing this as well ... although there is a firmware upgrade for the ST8000VN0002 (do not believe this is public) that fixes this same noise issue (see other community thread). I am going to continue to press Seagate Technical Support.

I was able to acquire the firmware update from Seagate Technical Support. The firmware update for Seagate Model #ST8000NE0001 is version EN01 ... which is different than the firmware upgrade for Seagate Model # ST8000VN0002.
Seagate highly recommends that disk management tools provided by the RAID controller manufacturer be used. Does the ReadyNAS Admin console provide an interface for updating the hard drive firmware? If not, does anyone have a recommendation for application of the firmware upgrade? I have a collection of MacBook Pro computers accessing this NAS.
Thanks,
Brian

Hi gonegolfin,
As far as I know, there is no update the firmware of the hard drive on the ReadyNAS. You might actually need to use Seatools to do this. Lets wait for other who might have experienced it first hand.
