Web admin doesn't register any changes after 4.2.28 firmware update

Hi all,

I have a ReadyNAS Ultra 4 [X-RAID2], and I recently upgraded its firmware to 4.2.28. Now, whenever I access the web admin (e.g., https://192.168.192.12/admin/), none of the options seem to take.

I can't shut it down or restart it. I can't activate Apple Filing Protocol (AFP) or NFS. Whenever I try to make a change like this, I hit "Apply" button the page merely reloads.

I also cannot SSH into the box. I was able to do so before with no problems.

I tried to downgrade to firmware 4.2.27, but it said "Update file is not valid for this architecture."

What can I do?

Adrian

  • 4GB root partition was full with Crashplan upgrade installers.

When writes to a full partition are made the written files are corrupted so some config was corrupted and naturally the firmware update couldn't be stored temporarily on the partition so it gave the error about the architecture check failing.

This sounds like a full OS partition.

Start by deleting the logs (if you can). Do this on both the logs page and the backup page.  Don't attempt to download them.  If that works, then go in with ssh and check the free inodes and free space on the OS partition again.

Another option is paid Netgear support.

      Thanks for the quick response!

I think you're right about that, as I remember my OS partition getting full a few months back. :-/

Problem is, I have no logs, either on the logs page or the backup page. Is there another way of clearing space from the OS partition, using the web admin or otherwise?

Which means that the system is too full to show them to you (at least in the case of the logs page).

SSH access (but only if it was already enabled).  There is a way to get into the system when you boot up in tech support mode, but it does require some knowledge of linux commands (the OS partition needs to be properly mounted for example).

The safest way is to contact support and pay them the per-incident support fee (assuming you are the original purchaser).
