What is a file "Versions"? 6.5.1
When I right click a file name within a share, I am seeing "Versions" as a choice. What are they and where did they come from? When I look at the snapshots for that share, I do not see any connecti...
- Jul 20, 2016Versions is based on Snapshots.
The Versions will show you the different versions of the file that are retained in the Snapshot. If the version of the file is the same (duplicates) it will not display that version of the file. It should help users fine the different versions of the files based on the snapshot without having to look at a bunch of duplicate files that retain the same content.
The versioning/changing of the files are checked in BTRFS.

Hello paulinde,
It must have something to do with Snapshots. Probably revisions of the file that you right clicked on.

That was my first thought, however the numbers of snapshots do not equal the number of versions. ??
Cannot find anything in any docs that refer to this.

Hello paulinde,
I'll check with others too while we wait if other moderators from Netgear have idea on this.

The versions are history of file changes. The snapshots can be created every hour. The file can be changed never. Does not make a sense to keep versions of not changed file. So, number of snapshots should not be the same as number of file versions.

Exactly as sotrack explained :)
You can't compare snapshots with file versions. They are not the same thing.
