Where are iTunes server files?
I have a Readynas duo and keep my music in a folder there under media. It's set up with Firefly as the iTunes server for me to access with a variety of devices.
I recently tried out several players from my Ubuntu desktop, unwisely using the iTunes server option in the players. Now my music files have "disappeared" from their original folder, leaving behind just the folder structure and cover art. Most (although not all) of the files seem to be somewhere on the nas, as they can be played by a music player.
Can anybody suggest where the files are and how I can access them and put them back where they started? (I tried mounting the disk from the Readynas on my ubuntu system, but I couldn't get it to mount.)

- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserThat sounds weird. How are you accessing the folder? SMB/CIFS, or some other way?
- D_H_DAspirantI usually mount the NAS on my ubuntu machine as a windows share. I've just mounted it via AFP with the same result.
I assume that the iTunes server or music player has decided to reorganise my music files and put them somewhere else on the NAS - but I don't seem to be able to find them. - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserFireFly won't move them, and if a music player somehow did move them, then I'd think FireFly would'nt longer able to find them.
It is possible that you've gotten the permissions messed up, so you aren't seeing all all the folders???
Do you have ssh enabled on the NAS? Since you are comfortable with linux command line stuff, that might be the easiest way for you to sort it. - D_H_DAspirantIn some sense, there must be a permissions issue. The files must be somewhere - otherwise the player wouldn't play them - but I can't see them.
I don't have ssh enabled. How could I use that? - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserThe download for ssh is here: http://www.readynas.com/?p=4203 You'd need putty installed, and you log in as "root", using the admin password.
Then you could browse the music folders as root, and see what the permissions are. And of course you could use find to locate specific mp3 files.
Another option is to reset the owners and permissions on the music share(s). What firmware are you running on the duo? - D_H_DAspirantFirmware is 4.1.13, which Raidar tells me is the latest version.
- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserAnd it confirms that you have a Duo v1...
If you want to reset the ownership and permissions, you select the CIFS icon next to the share listing in Frontview.
Then select the "advanced options" tab on the upper right.
Set the owner/group and rights as desired, then check the box next to "Set ownership and permission for existing files..."
(nobody for owner and nogroup for group will work fine btw).
Press apply (bottom right) and the box will clear. Eventually there will be a pop-up telling you it is complete - the completion will also be logged. - D_H_DAspirantThanks. I've done that and reconnected to the nas but I still can't see the files.
I've just run RhythmBox using the iTuse server option and played one of the "missing" tracks. Under properties, it gives a location of daap://192.168.1.67:3689/databases/1/item?session-id. But this is the same location for other tracks, too.
Does this help? - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserUnfortunately the daap URI doesn't tell you where something is on the NAS hard drive.
Do you have a backup of the music that is missing? - D_H_DAspirantNo backup, except that it is on the original CDs.
I'll try the ssh approach tomorrow.
