Where have all the space gone?

Hello together,

my nas is now up and running for two years. I am very happy with it at all. Good job, netgear!

During the last months it seems to consume too much hdd space. I didnt copy much onto the nas these days but it seems consuming hdd space. I am not sure why. What are the most common space eaters?

I kow there are:

- well, of course my files

- snapshots

What else could cause loss of hdd space?

Thank you in advance.

You have the main causes.  Running a balance might help reduce metadata space (which is one cause you missed).

There have been cases where old snapshots failed to migrate properly when the firmware was updated.  Those snapshots still exist and take up space, but the NAS web ui doesn't see them.  Netgear can delete them manually (though support would likely charge).

Backing up the data and doing a factory reset would of course also take care of it (extreme, but avoids any support charges).
