Windows 8.1 can't see NAS

I saw that post previously. I am using the Local Account login option on both 8.1 machines. I looked into the SMB Plus app for X86 but it downloads from the forum as a .deb file. When I try to install it as an add-on I get an invalid package message. Is there another way to install it or is it not compatible with the NVX?
One other interesting note: my Mac os/x 10.8.5 CAN see and access the NAS just fine.
