Hi,I have a windows 8.1 machine here and it cannot see any shares on my RN104 device.If I either go to \\hostname or \\1.2.3.4 ip address I just get Error Code 0x80070035 saying it can't find it. Or I get a login prompt and the credentials don't work.The shares are set to allow everyone access, even anonymous access.The issue happens even if the firewall is off on this machine.Are there any known incompatibilities between windows 8.1 and RN104 os version 6.1.8?I can mount shares via cifs from a Mac fine...thanks

Is the Windows 8.1 network connection classified as private, with network discovery turned on? Are the windows system and the NAS in the same windows workgroup?Also, have you tried using the NAS admin credentials?On credentials generally, windows will present its logon credentials to the NAS by default. If the user name matches one configured on the NAS (for instance "admin") but the password doesn't match, then access is denied even if anonymous access is allowed.

I can ping the device and log into the web page OK, so network connectivity is fine. Just access via CIFS doesn't work :/

I have tested CIFS access with this machine at work and can access shares hosted on a Windows 2003 file server and a NetApp filer no problem. It just seems to be accessing the shares on the Readynas. However other devices (a mac) can access the shares... weird...

It is weird. I'm a windows 7 user, but did connect with no problems using Win 8. However, I no longer have that machine, and I haven't tried win 8.1.You might try net use next."net use * /delete" to delete any existing connections"net use T: \\nasname\sharename /user:admin" to mount a share using NAS admin credentials. You should get a password prompt.

Thanks for the suggestion.Interestingly, I can do net use T: \\nasname\sharename /user:admin and it will mount the share.But I cannot, under any circumstances, open Explorer and go to \\nasname\sharename or even \\nasname to browse the available shares. Any idea why that might be? Mounting via net use is a workaround for now but is strange that it doesn't work via explorer...

yes indeed. Same exact username/password. the strange thing is that it works with NET USE command, but explorer browser gives the invalid handle message.

By the way, i just tried using an WINDOWS 8.1 (non domain - plain workgroup) and managed to use the file browser to see both NAS and all shares successfully (without needing to use the NET USE command to explicitly map the drives) This is fine, but I really would like to find out the real cause of why with my Enterprise (work domain) version, it worked ok with NV+v2, but refuses to browse the RN104.

Perhaps there's a domain policy (or internet security software) interfering?

Yes, I can understand if it were the same behavior for BOTH nas1 and nas2, but in this case, nas1(NV+V2) works fine, but nas2 (RN104) does not. Just curious if there is something that can be tuned/tweaked on the RN104 side.

The fact that mapping to a drive letter works, but direct access in explorer fails is probably a clue, but not one I can interpret.

This solved it!
I installed this, and tried again and now I am able to browse using file explorer on the Windows 8 (Domain). I used SMB1 (CIFS) and enabled OPlocks.

Now there is no need to map paths with drive letters. By the way, i am now able to browse the Data volume (this sees all shares) by using admin/password instead of the normal user/password.
