xbox 360 dvd playback (directly from NAS)

Hello,

I've been searching quite a lot on this subject, but most information dates from 2009 and longer ago.
I've a xbox 360 hooked up to my TV and connected to my network.
I use my xbox to play videofiles from my NAS.
The only problem so far (except for the lack of mkv support by xbox) is the lack of dvd playback support.
Most usenet downloads are direct dvd5 rips / backups.
Is there a way to play those downloads with xbox 360 or do I need to convert them to mpg / mpeg / wmv / avi / ... first?
If the answer is yes, can this be automated.

Thanks a lot in advance!

  • The answer is Yes. You need to convert the media files into files formats that is supported by your xbox 360. Regarding the automation of doing this, I think you have to look for a 3rd party media file converter that will do the job.
  • better suggestion would be to buy a popcorn hour or a dune

but dont bother with the pathetic offering from netgear of the neotv550 it sucks
  • thanks a lot all! maybe I need to focus on a cheaper mediaplayer without HDD since my NAS works as my media storage..
