Programatically check the storage of my server

I'm trying to write a program that queries the readynas server and ask how much storage is left in the server so I can delete older files automatically. Is this possible?

    Many options available. The most easy one would be to query by SNMP in the VolumeTable

    in the OID 1.3.6.1.4.1.4526.18.7.1 for Free space and Total Space.

    ...or (of course) Linux' script it from your NAS OS 6 shell.
