I own a NetGear R8500 and wanted to map a url to a local IP for a small web server that I have running on my local network and was hugely disappointed to find my $600AUD router isn't capable of doing this from the settings, even though the router does this for myrouterlogin.net or whatever the url is.
Coming to see that so many people have DNS problems has made me realise a few of the slowdown issues I have had previously are probably caused by some of these issues.
I shouldn't need to have to set up yet another device to have this work. I bought this router because it was marketed as a high end unit and I expected it to have all the bells and whistles of other brands.
I may have these options with open source firmware but why should I have to install them, when these settings should be available out of the box?
If I am just overlooking something and this is possible, PLEASE can someone let me know. I don't want to set up my own DNS server just to have this as an option.
