Two requests:
- Add an option to toggle whether the router advertises its own IP address as a DNS server. Advanced users don't need routerlogin.net.
- Allow a private IP address to be specified as a DNS server. This currently doesn't work because the DNS relay occurs after NAT. A user has to disable the DHCP server on the router in order to use their own DNS server.

Please Netgear we are begging you!
This request has been open for over four years now and NetGear has made a choice to not implement this feature despite tremendous demand. For every comment on this thread there's probably a few thousand users who did not care to create an identity on Netgaer's site and upvote or throw in a comment. Netgear is probably (and hopefully) an organization that cares about losing business.With such obvious demand, there's either a lack of talent in tehorganization to securely implement this feature (I'm shorting today) or the leadership is a bunch of fools to ignore customer sentiment and antagonize customers. It doesn't take much to bing false pride crumbling down these days.
Just wanted to post an update that I'll certianly not buy Netgear prodcuts in the future. I've already bought couple of Asus routers that have great software features.
It should be noted by Netgear that depdending only on the good hardware are over and you need to have great software to match the hardware.

I purchased a C7800 for $367 US in Dec '18. At some point last year, I wanted to disable dns relay, and found I couldn't. I'm pretty sorry I spent this much to be missing a basic feature that a $50 router would have given me.
Add dns blocking. The blocking does not work. I came to upvote this from a link about blocking urls at dns level. Why can't the router itself block dns requests to a blocked url/domain? Using openvpn is just not easy with dynamic ips. Jugling the ddns...and parental controls brings a lot of unnecessary stuff and blocks a lot of things for lan communication...pathetic netgear
Using PiHole and other DNS servers lose tremendous funcitonality when I can't identify the DNS client. Please allow DHCP server to advertise a different custom option for DNS.

Any chance of this being implemented for the XR500?
Netgear clearly cares more about raking in $$$ with bs features like Netgear ARMOR. Schedule cycles to implement basic features like the one so many of us are requesting here, or you'll most likely lose a lot of support and business.
