Examples of this infuriating design (Nighthawk AC2300 router). If you change settings that take an extended time to enter & press "Apply", because of the rapid timeout it prompts for a login & all your updates are wiped out after logging back on. Often, after all the re-logging back in, I'm prompted that there are multiple connections & then it asks if I want to log the other connection(s) out. After a time out (never any indication in advance that you're timed-out), if you press log out it prompts you to log in and then logs out!? Or if you cancel trying to login, it beats you over the head to try to do a reset forgotten password routine! Design lunacy! Even worse, you have to reboot the router after most configuration changes - why not just set the router "state" to "requires a reboot to take effect", so that all updates can be performed in a single, or at least fewer, restart(s). Again, user-hostile.
