Hi there, I have been purchasing Netgear products for most of my adult life, most recently moving from an r6250 to an r7800. Prior to those two routers, I also owned 3 other Netgear routers, TP-Link router, D-Link and Linksys. At all times, Netgear outperformed the compeition. The only thing that was extremely displeasing with Netgear, was the fact that the software was limited unles you wanted to pay for addons.
Having gotten around this with custom firmware, I was not very concerned with that. However, looking to purchase my next router, seeing the cost for a decent router that will come with parental controls and other software related items which drive the hardware to it's full potential, I am very displeased with how Netgear over charges. I will be moving to another manufacutrer this time, at less than half the cost with all the bells and whitles, including intel processing. (I am sure you can guess which one?) I am sure I am not the only one thinking this way.
Hopefully Netgear changes their practises where software is concerned, and perhaps my next purchase may lead back to Netgear.
