Frequency Options

For “Attached Devices” listed, include three radio setting option buttons. One for 2.4GHz, another for 5GHz, and another for Auto. This would allow the network admin to force connections to a specific frequency on a device or allow Orbi to decide for each device with Auto selected.

Example: I have two Echo Studio Speakers and a Fire TV Stick 4K set up as a home theater. The speakers only connect at 5GHz, the Fire TV can connect at 2.4 or 5GHz. Problem is, the home theater setup requires they all be on the same 5GHz frequency. The Fire TV will change to 2.4 on it’s own usually during a movie. Then I have to disconnect and connect the Fire TV up to a dozen times to get a 5GHz connection. Very frustrating. I am fine with letting Orbi decide on most devices, but having the ability to force a selected connection would be great. They system can come setup with auto(select) and the user would make changes thereafter.

I currently have an Orbi Router, Satellite, Voice Satellite and Outdoor Orbi so I have been a committed customer, but honestly, this problem and the 400 page problem that caused me to have to factory reset my entire mesh may be the things that cause me to look elsewhere when I need to replace my network gear. I have had many Netgear products in the past an hope you implement my suggestion. I have seen many struggle with the same issues online with no solutions available.

Thanks for the consideration … Tony Valenti

  • THis one is significant for multiple reasons. With 2.4ghz, some IoT people like myself would rather not even broadcast that band and let it take the congestion away for the 5ghz.

  • I'll also add - it's just antiquated to not have at least that much control over the unit. I understand making things easy, but at the price point of the ultra ax6000, it's simply not competitive with options at the same price point - even disregarding the lack of other tweaks.

  • Totally agree. At this point I am now considering the next release of the Synology mesh coming before mid year. They promise to provide the ability to create up to 4 or 5 isolated SSID's. I have two Synology NAS' I bought over the last year and love the fact that they are not only a great hardware company, but have unbeatable software on their devices. They also seem to have really good support. Sad to say, but I think Netgear has gone with Apple pricing, but haven't brought the feature set deserving. Just my opinion.
