What is an NBN network and is my NETGEAR DSL modem router compatible? | Answer | NETGEAR Support
Some people happily use Netgear modems and routers on NBN. The R6220 seems to be compatible with most versions of NBN.
There are plenty of discussions about NBN elsewhere in the support forums.
Nor do you need to use an AP to work with whatever NBN modem you have. Some people happily put their modem into modem only (bridge) mode and then use their R6220, or whatever device they own, as a router.
