Other mesh networks such as Eero and soon Luma support hard wiring your sattelites. I think its extremely important Netgear Orbi does the same. Especially for those of us who can.
So I actually bought the Orbi with two satellites from Costco and tested it in my house. I was actually quite disappointed with the speeds I got throughout the house at various spots. My Asus AC87U performed better than the Orbi in several locations.
As I mentioned above, I have wire going to several locations where I would put the satellites/extenders so ethernet backhaul is ideal.
There was an amazing offer on Newegg a few weeks back for a Linksys EA9500 router plus two RE7000 range extenders for free. The RE7000 support ethernet backhaul and can be setup as Access Points. Additionally, the EA9500 and RE7000 can be setup for seamless roaming. The experience has been fantastic and the speeds I have throughout my house are amazing.
