Other mesh networks such as Eero and soon Luma support hard wiring your sattelites. I think its extremely important Netgear Orbi does the same. Especially for those of us who can.
This still does not work 100% for me. Tried talking to netgear support but they didn't have much to offer besides "reset to factory and try again" which I have done many times
Setup
- Orbi is in AP mode
- Firmware is 2.3.5.30
- Base Station is plugged in to 1 Gbps switch (second port)
- Satellite is plugged in to 1 Gbps switch (first port)
- Carrier provided router is plugged in to same 1 Gbps switch
- Base station IP is provided by DHCP on router, using reservation
- Satellite IP is provided by DHCP on router, using reservation
What does work
- Wireless Internet connectivity
- Wired Internet connectivity
- Web admin pages for both base and satellite
So the basics are there, which is good
What does not work
- Base station has magenta light on always
- Orbi app does not connect for local admin when iPhone is connected to satellite Wi-Fi
- Orbi app does connect for local admin when iPhone is connected to base station Wi-Fi
- But shows internet status as "offline"
- Intermittent connectivity issues for devices connected to satellite
I enabled remote admin via the app, but it is greyed out in the web interface so i'm thinking that might be a Router Mode only feature.
