Other mesh networks such as Eero and soon Luma support hard wiring your sattelites. I think its extremely important Netgear Orbi does the same. Especially for those of us who can.

- morallydubiousOnlookerThe 4 ports was what attracted me too, I'd rather not have a switch in my living room....or some ugly ap device as suggested by some

I was looking into velocity and some others with wired backhaul but Orbi Satellite has 4 ports so it eliminates need for a switch for me.

I gave up :-(
Went back with my Orbi and ordered the Velop.
They support the wired backhaul and are very close in performance.

Hope so and looking forward for the wired backhaul. Hope they can also do something to increase the speed for 2.4 and 5 GHz too.

Received survey email from Netgear about Orbi and wired backhaul feature desirability was one of the survey items so atleast Netgear are considering to possibly include this in the future hopefully via Firmware.

I would definitely vote for a wired backhaul. The wireless is basically quite weak when the house is made of layers of thick bricks in between. My home cant even get past the second floor for the satellite to connect properly and the speed to download youtube video is weak. Gave up on using it and returned back to my old solution of two different routers wired via CAT 5E.
Its a wasteful resource whereby the backhaul can be used for devices communication rather than dedicated for own communication.

Yeah, well I can almost guarantee they will put the ethernet backhaul on a new model and make you buy it for that feature. I wouldn't be surprised if it cost us another $400 to get this from Netgear.
- morallydubiousOnlookerGiven this is the most popular post here I am hoping netgear are listening. Unlike netgear-pete there are plenty of people out there that see the benefit in this

No doubt the Orbi hardware can handle it, just a matter of how high on the list in Netgear Engineering is this feature, it is gaining traction it seem there is a lot of people in the community mentioning and wishing for it.
